Brady Tkachuk is on the move.
The three-time All-Star winger and captain for the Ottawa Senators is joining the Florida Panthers via a blockbuster trade featuring three first-round draft picks. The Panthers announced the trade on Sunday, confirming multiple reports.

In exchange for Tkachuk, the Panthers will send the Senators the Nos. 9 and 25 picks in this year’s draft, a conditional first-round selection in 2029 and a second-round pick in 2027. Tkachuk will join a Panthers team that features his brother and two-time NHL All-Star Matthew Tkachuk.
Tkachuk reportedly wanted out
The trade ends lingering speculation over Tkachuk’s future in Ottawa. Per multiple reports, Tkachuk didn’t intend to sign an extension in Ottawa to his seven-year, $57.5 million contract that has two seasons remaining.
According to Sportsnet, Tkachuk’s representation sent the Senators a list of four teams that he’d have accepted a trade to: Florida, the Carolina Hurricanes, Vegas Golden Knights and Minnesota Wild. Tkachuk had a no-trade clause in his contract, giving him control over any trade from Ottawa.

The trade for Tkachuk signals Florida’s intent to return to contention next season. After winning consecutive Stanley Cup championships in 2024 and 2025, the Panthers fell to seventh place out of eight teams in the Atlantic Division at 40-38 and missed the playoffs.
For the Senators, the move signals a focus on the future on the heels of consecutive first-round playoff losses after missing seven straight postseasons.
Tkachuk, 26, has played his entire eight-season NHL career with the Senators. The No. 4 selection in the 2018 NHL Draft, he was a first-team All-Rookie selection in 2019. He’s since made three All-Star teams and will provide Florida with another high-level offensive attacker alongside his brother, Matthew.
Ottawa, meanwhile, will be in search of a new captain.
