SANTA ROSA BEACH — Seacoast Collegiate High School senior McKazlyn “Kazz” Payne signed to play golf at Oglethorpe University in Brookhaven, Georgia, during a ceremony held on Oct. 25

Payne, who received more than $100,000 in academic and athletic scholarships, was joined by family, friends, mentors and school officials.

A member of the South Walton High School girls golf team, Payne excelled athletically and academically, participating in Seacoast Collegiate’s Dual Enrollment program. She is set to graduate in May with her high school diploma and an associate of arts degree from Northwest Florida State College.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue my golf career at Oglethorpe University,” Payne said in a news release. “Playing golf has taught me resilience, focus, and the importance of mental strength, and I’m excited to bring those skills to the collegiate level. Thank you to my coaches, mentors, family, and friends who have supported me every step of the way.”

South Walton Girls Golf Coach Kendall Griner praised Payne for her dedication.

“Kazz is a unique talent, but her commitment and work ethic are what set her apart. She’s an inspiring leader and a true team player, and I know she’ll make a tremendous impact at Oglethorpe,” Griner said.

Griner, PGA professional Kevin Lacey and golf mentor and mental coach John Goudie attended the ceremony, all playing key roles in Payne’s development.

“Kazz embodies the spirit of Seacoast Collegiate High School — hard work, determination, and excellence,” Seacoast Principal Drew Ward said. “Her achievements in both academics and athletics are an inspiration, and we couldn’t be prouder to celebrate this milestone with her as she begins an exciting new chapter at Oglethorpe.”
