Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy will headline a Showdown-type all-star event in December, according to a report by Sports Business Journal.

The report says Versant, a new TV company that’s made up of several cable channels that were spun off by NBCUniversal, is behind the venture that will use the same production companies that staged The Showdown made-for-TV events on TNT.

SBJ reports that the world Nos. 1 and 2 will be captains of four-man teams. It appears that LIV golfers won’t be a part of this venture. Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka represented LIV when they took on Scheffler and McIlroy in a Showdown in 2024.

This all-star bash is likely to be carried by several of the networks now owned by Versant, which now is made up of USA Network, Golf Channel, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E! and SYFY.

The pro golf calender late in the year has several unofficial events, such as Tiger Woods’ Hero World Challenge as well as the Grant Thornton Invitational (a mixed event featuring PGA Tour and LPGA players) and the PNC Championship. SBJ reports that this Scheffler/McIlroy match will be after the Grant Thornton, scheduled for Dec. 12-14.
