The Buffalo Sabres will not only be wearing their traditional blue and gold home jerseys on home ice this season, but will also be wearing two alternate uniforms for 17 of their 42 games at Key Bank Center and one game on the road. The club indicated last week that the club will wear their black, white, and red “goat’s head” jersey in 10 games, and their new alternate Hometown Remix jersey in eight games.

The first domino fell in the trade market on Monday, as the Toronto Maple Leafs dealt winger Matthew Knies in a six-player deal to acquire winger Kirill Marchenko. The situation in Winnipeg with goalie Connor Hellebuyck is far from being resolved, as he has refused to report. The Jets claimed goalie Clay Stevenson off of waivers from the Washington Capitals to back up starter Stuart Skinner.
ESPN’s Steve Levy believes that the Sabres should trade for the Vezina and Hart Trophy winner.

“I think you want a clear cut #1, for the obvious reason, that a) they are better at stopping pucks, but the other part is that it calms everything else down.” Levy said to WKBW’s Matthew Bove. “It takes the pressure off the coach, who am I going with tonight…what rotation….it takes pressure off the defensemen…they are not worried about every mistake…..I’ve got an ace back there…. (and) pressure off the forwards, we don’t have to score four or five every night, we can win 2-1 or 3-2 if we have to.”
