Ryan Blaney left World Wide Technology Raceway with a fourth-place result and unfinished business with Kyle Larson. Contact from Larson’s№5 Chevrolet on Lap 135 sent Blaney spinning and brought out a caution, and while Blaney rallied to finish fourth, he warned that payback may be coming.

Blaney and Larson were battling for position at the end of Stage 2 when Larson’s №5 Chevrolet made contact with Blaney’s №12 Ford Mustang. The spin sent Blaney back but he recovered well enough and finished fourth overall, even if he was furious not just because of the whole situation but also losing valuable stage points.

Blaney’s Frustration Fuels Payback Warning

After the race, Blaney confronted Larson to discuss the incident. Larson admitted to misjudging the maneuver, saying, “I just told him I messed up. I wasn’t meaning obviously to go in there and hit him. The lap before, I went in, I was able to get to his door and get him tight. The next time, I was trying to do the same thing and wasn’t going to get there and was going to tuck back in line and just clipped him. He should be upset. I just misjudged it.” (NASCAR.com)

Blaney accepted Larson’s apology, but he still mentioned that it won’t be forgotten. He added, “Even though it wasn’t done with malicious intent at all, I still remember it. I still got the s*** end of it and got turned around and had to come from the back.”

He added, “You remember stuff like that. It’s not anything grudgey or something like that; it’s just those racing situations that you kind of think about next time you run with that person.”

Ryna Blaney’s remarks indicate he has no hard feelings toward Kyle Larson, but he will certainly race more cautiously in the future. He said, “You probably run them a little tighter and don’t give them as much space.”

The playoffs continue now, and both drivers are focused on trying to advance to the next round. Blaney’s fourth-place finish at Gateway kept him in check, while Larson, even with the incident is easily still a strong contender for the playoffs at this stage.
