The Next Generation: Charlie Woods’ Golfing Journey
Charlie Woods came onto the golf scene in 2021 playing with his father in the PNC Championship when he was just 12 years old.
The first round of the 2025 Rocket Classic is in the books.
American golfer Kevin Roy and South African golfer Aldrich Potgieter shared the lead after shooting course-record 10-under-par 62s in the opening round of the Rocket Classic on Thursday, June 26. The 25-year-old Roy has six top-five finishes in his career but has never won a PGA Tour event.
The 20-year-old Potgieter, meanwhile, has two top-five finishes to his name and has one win on the Korn Ferry Tour: the 2024 Bahamas Great Abaco Classic.
Collin Morikawa, the No. 5 golfer in the world and highest-ranked golfer at the event, finished first-round play with a 3-under 69. Two-time winner and defending champion Cam Davis finds himself in an uphill battle, finishing the round tied for 149thplace, with a 2-over 74.
The world’s No. 7, Keegan Bradley, shot a 4-under 68 in the first round.
The 156-player field for the seventh annual playing of the tournament at the Donald Ross-designed course (1916) includes five players currently ranked inside the top 20 in the world: Morikawa (No. 5), Bradley (No. 7), Hideki Matsuyama (No. 12), Ben Griffin (No. 17) and Patrick Cantlay (No. 20). That’s a big improvement from 2024, when the Rocket did not have a single player ranked among the world’s top 20 for the first time.
The field also includes recent U.S. Open winners Gary Woodland (2019), Matt Fitzpatrick (2022) and Wyndham Clark (2023).
Here’s everything you need to know for the 2025 Rocket Classic including second round TV and streaming, start time, tee times, live leaderboard, weather forecast, players in the field, how to buy tickets, parking and more info.

Detroit Golf Club: About the course
Donald Ross, one of the most prolific and famed architects of golf’s Golden Age, designed both courses at Detroit Golf Club, the North and South.
The course is mostly played on the North Course, though the holes on the front are routed in a different order for the Rocket Classic.
The club will undergo a $16 million renovation under the direction of Tyler Rae right after this year’s tournament ends — the first major transformation of the North Course since it opened more than a century ago. More than 100 trees will be removed, native grasses and ditches will be added, greens will be moved and enlarged and bunkers added.
Rocket Classic tickets: How to buy
Fans can purchase tickets at RocketClassic.com. Grounds tickets start at $65 per day. Children ages 15 and under are free with ticketed adult (no more than four per adult). Note that if you wish to enter hospitality venues, all children 3 and older will require a ticket. All tickets are mobile entry only (no printed tickets) and there is no re-entry.
The Rocket Classic announced a new initiative this year to get students involved in golf. Current students can get tickets for 31.3% off (a nod to Detroit’s area code) Thursday through Sunday if they use their .edu email address at checkout.
Gates open at 6:45 a.m. Friday and play begins on the first and 10th tees.
Rocket Classic parking info
Parking is not included with ticket purchase. Parking is located at Wayne State (5501 Anthony Wayne Drive) in Parking Structure 5. A free shuttle service is provided from 6:15 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Parking passes can be purchased online for $31. A digital parking pass is required for entry per vehicle.
