SUGARCREEK — River View sophomore Gavin Gress shot 5-under-par 67 to earned medalist honors, as the Black Bears were second of 14 teams on Aug. 1 at the Garaway Invitational at Willandale Golf Course.
Gress was part of a River VIew squad that shot 293 to break an 18-hole school record that stood since 1969, but fell in the fifth-score playoff to Warren John F. Kennedy. Freshman Colton Gress shot 70, Caleb Kline 78 and Clark Frieschen 78 for RV.
John Glenn’s C.J. Dolan shot 71 and Cooper Briggs 76 for John Glenn, which shot 306. Hayden Gensor added 77.
Strasburg 161, Ridgewood 199: Collier Spurgenor shot 45 and Wade Thompson 46 for the Generals in an IVC dual at River Greens.
Gage Bonifant and Drew Lancaster had 39 for Strasburg.
Girls Golf
Ridgewood second at IVC preseason meet: Brynn Harstine fired a 1-under-par 71 to pace Ridgewood to a second-place finish at the Inter-Valley Conference Preseason Tournament at par-72 Hickory Flats.
Josie Staunton added 88 and Jacey Hess 92 for Ridgewood, which shot 356 and trailed only champion Garaway (350).
