The NHL has announced the date for the 2025 NHL Draft Lottery. It will take place on Monday, May 5th, giving the San Jose Sharks a glimpse into what could be a franchise-altering moment.
As it stands, the Sharks hold the best odds of winning the first overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. After finishing the season with a 20-50-12 record, they have a 25.5% chance of securing the top selection.

- Chicago Blackhawks: 13.5%
- Nashville Predators: 11.5%
- Philadelphia Flyers: 9.5%
- Boston Bruins: 8.5%
- Seattle Kraken: 7.5%
- Buffalo Sabres: 6.5%
- Anaheim Ducks: 6.0%
- Pittsburgh Penguins: 5.0%
- New York Islanders: 3.5%
- New York Rangers: 3.0%
This year’s draft will also mark a significant change, as it will be the first decentralized NHL Draft in history. It will be held June 27–28 at L.A. Live’s Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
The Sharks picked Macklin Celebrini first overall in 2024. This year, they may have a shot at drafting standout defenseman Matthew Schaefer from the Erie Otters of the OHL.
