GOODWIN — The Goodwin Merchants recently won the Northeast Area Women’s Softball League Tournament on their home field.
The Goodwin team beat Viessman’s of Canby, MN 8-6, Bruce 18-0 and Gary 26-17 on the tourney’s opening day and White 17-15 in the unbeaten game the next day before rain washed out the rest of the tourney.
Goodwin was declared the champion and Viessman’s won a coin flip over White for second place.
SDGA Golf
YANKTON — Steve Beardsley of Rapid City, a 1971 Watertown High School graduate, won the South Dakota Golf Association Senior Championship on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025, at the Hillcrest Golf & Country Club.
The SDGA Pre-Senior (40+), Senior (55+) and Masters (70+) Championship ran Saturday and Sunday.
Beardsley shot an 8-over 152 (78-74) and won a playoff over Scott Holm of Brookings to win the Senior Championship. Scott Whitlock of Aberdeen was third (54), Jack Hieb of Aberdeen sixth (157), 1971 WHS graduate Doug Murphy of Hartford ninth (161).
Adam Chandler of Vermillion used a par on th efinal hole to win the Pre-Senior Championship by one shot over Charlie Jacobson of Sioux Falls, a 1998 WHS graduate. Chandler finished with a 4-over 148 (74-74).
Bill Carland of Sioux Falls won the first ever SDGA Masters Championship with an 8-over 152 (81-71). Scott Hardie of Watertown took third at 158.
Dan Megard of Sioux Falls shot a 9-over 153 (74-79) to win the Rushmore Division and John Himme of Sioux Falls a 15-over 159 (78-81) to win the Oahe Division.
