Atletico Madrid lost 4-3 on penalties to Real Sociedad after a 2-2 draw in normal and extra time in the Copa del Rey final at the Estadio de La Cartuja on Saturday evening.
Sociedad opened the scoring inside 15 seconds as Ander Barrenetxea headed Goncalo Guedes’ cross into the bottom corner.

Barrenetxea’s goal is the fastest in the competition’s final history, overtaking Manuel Badenes’ record set in 1952.
Atletico drew level in the 18th minute through Ademola Lookman who picked out the bottom corner after receiving a pass from Antoine Griezmann.
Goncalo Guedes came close to restoring Sociedad’s lead with a fine strike which Juan Musso pushed behind for a corner.
Sociedad were awarded a penalty just before the break after Musso fouled Guedes. Mikel Oyarzabal converted the resulting penalty, sending Musso the wrong way.
Lookman squandered a golden chance after the hour mark, failing to hit the target from a promising position.

Atletico eventually restored parity in the 83rd minute with Julian Alvarez combining with Thiago Almada before the Argentine rifled his strike into the top corner.
Alex Baena and Johnny Cardoso missed two big chances to hand the winner to Atletico late on, forcing the game into extra-time.
In the first half of extra time, Musso produced two good consecutive saves to deny Carlos Soler and Orri Oskarsson, before Alvarez struck the woodwork.
There were no genuine attempts at either end in the second period of extra time, sending the game to penalties.
Sociedad won on penalties, with Pablo Marin scoring the decisive spot-kick to clinch their fourth Copa del Rey title.
