GMS Race Cars has purchased the ‘vehicle fleet and equipment’ formerly used in the Superstar Racing Experience.
The company, which also owns GMS Fabrication and the former GMS Racing NASCAR organization in Statesville, North Carolina, now owns all 16 fully-assembled race cars that were used in the IROC style short track series that aired on CBS and then ESPN from 2021-to-2023.
Ray Evernham, who co-founded the series alongside racing legend Tony Stewart and longtime sports media executive George Pyne, maintained the fleet in the years since out of his Big Iron Garage in Mooresville, North Carolina.
Evernham designed the cars in advance of its television debut.

“These race cars were built to an incredibly high standard by Ray, with durability, drivability, and performance in mind,” Cohen said. “Our team sees a huge opportunity to take these vehicles into a new era, repurposing them for premium track-day experiences, turnkey customer programs, and specialty racing events across the country. The possibilities are endless.”
GMS Racing also recently hired Tony Eury Jr. to oversee its new Late Model chassis program. This is notable because Eury worked on the fleet of cars during his time at FURY Race Cars, which worked alongside SRX during its TV tenure.
“This acquisition is a major step forward for GMS Fabrication as well,” said Mike Beam, President of GMS Fabrication. “Our fabrication teams are central to every racing effort, and we’re excited to lead this next chapter with the craftsmanship and pride that GMS is known for.”

GMS Race Cars did not purchase any of the branding, names or broadcast rights associated to SRX but he was pleased to give these cars a new life in whatever direction Beam, Cohen and Eury take it.
“It’s incredibly gratifying to see these cars live on in a new format,” Evernham said. “We built them to be durable, lively, and fun — whether in the hands of champions or first-timers. GMS Race Cars is the perfect group to carry that torch forward and put smiles on a whole new generation of drivers.”
