Tony Finau’s 2025 season has been a rollercoaster with three top-15 finishes in seven starts but three missed cuts as well.
On Saturday, during the second round of the Texas Children’s Houston Open, Finau had the ultimate hot and cold moment on the challenging par-3 15th hole. Finau found the middle of the green with his iron and although he missed a 38-foot birdie putt, he left himself just three feet for par.
That’s when things went south, however, as the six-time PGA Tour champ pulled the putt just a tad and it lipped out. When an understandably upset Finau took a stab at the two-inch tapper, he accidentally stubbed the putter and turned a bogey into a double.
Earlier this week, Finau said the municipal golf course was a perfect tune-up for the 2025 Masters, and was eager to get the tournament started.
“Anybody that asks me about my schedule, I always make sure they know I’m playing Houston and it’s a good golf course,” Finau said. “I don’t think that there’s a better prep golf course leading up to the Masters than Memorial Park. It’s a big golf course. I think they try to set it up where it’s similar to Augusta National maybe to have guys play. I know that was the case many years ago when it was at other golf courses.
“But I don’t think that there’s a better course to prepare for something like Augusta National than here.”
No word if he’s softened on his love for the course.
