CARMEL, Ind. — Indiana’s largest private country club, a 90,000-square-foot centerpiece to a Pete Dye-designed golf course, has finished a massive makeover to refresh and modernize the 240-acre expanse while keeping the integrity of Dye’s dream for the course.
The Bridgewater Club in Carmel celebrated its “re-opening” this weekend, giving hundreds of members a first look at the renovations. The longest tenured member of The Bridgewater Club, Pat Perry, was the first to tee off.

On the golf side, updates include reconstruction of the greens and green complex, revitalized bunkers, new forward tees, advanced turfgrass varieties, which were customized for Indiana’s weather conditions, cart path paving, expanded tee boxes and a larger practice green.
The renovation was focused on “creating exceptional playability for golfers of all skill levels,” the club says. IndyStar asked for the cost of the makeover but did not receive a response.
“This renovation is an incredible example of our commitment to delivering exceptional experiences for our members on the golf course and throughout the entire club,” Mike Gardner, chief operating officer of The Bridgewater Club, said in a statement.
The project was led by renowned golf course architect Tim Liddy, a longtime friend and collaborator of Dye’s. The renovations were built around Dye’s original vision, Gardner says.

Beyond the championship course, Bridgewater features a 23-acre practice range, heated hitting stalls for year-round play, indoor golf simulators, an indoor putting room and a 6-acre short game area.
“We paid attention to every detail,” Gardner says, “including new turf to compete with Indiana’s climate and evolving playing conditions while preserving the championship-caliber experience our club is known for.”
The Bridgewater’s clubhouse includes Zinc Bar, family dining, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a 15,000-square-foot fitness center, six tennis courts, six pickleball courts, a 3.5-mile walking trail, massage and steam rooms, infrared saunas and on-site child care.
