Even though there is a general consensus in the hockey community that there will not be a ton of trade activity during the 4 Nations Face-off break, that does not mean there will be none.
And the Pittsburgh Penguins made a small move on Thursday.
In an AHL-level trade with the St. Louis Blues, the Penguins sent forward Corey Andonovski to the Springfield Thunderbirds in exchange for forward Mathias Laferriere, who will report to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Laferriere, 24, has yet to reach the NHL level and has spent parts of four seasons in Springfield. This season, the 2018 sixth-round pick by St. Louis has two goals and 10 points in 33 games, and he is signed at $775,000 through the remainder of the 2024-25 season.
In 207 AHL games, the 6-foot-2 Laferriere has 21 goals and 70 points.
Andonovski, 25, was in and out of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s lineup this season, registering three goals and five points in 27 games. Undrafted, he, too, has spent parts of the last four seasons in the AHL, posting 18 goals, 54 points, and 182 penalty minutes in 157 games.
