Oxford United defender Sam Long has signed a new contract to extend his 14-year stay at the club as a professional.

The 31-year-old has made 307 appearances for the U’s, scoring 16 goals and registering 16 assists and was part of the squad that secured promotion to the Championship via the play-offs in 2024.

Bicester-born Long, who previously had loan spells at Kidderminster and Hampton & Richmond, is a product of Oxford’s academy and has made 36 appearances across all competitions this season.

“Oxford’s everything to me, It’s been my life since a very young boy and I want to continue to have many more years in the first team,” Long told the club website.

“I’ve very fortunate to have played more than 300 times already, this club is very important to me and I’m looking forward to a positive future.

“We have an important month left in the season where we are all fighting to keep Oxford United in the Championship.

“I will continue to do everything that I can to push this club forward, I’m excited for what’s to come with an unbelievable support behind me and the team as always.”

Oxford, who have not disclosed the length of Long’s new deal, return to Championship action on Friday when they host Hull City at the Kassam Stadium (15:00 BST).
