The annual Operation LAMB (Least Amongst My Breathren) and Holy Cross Council 8509 Golf Classic will be held on May 10 at Pine Knolls Golf Club.

The golf tournament, which is the biggest fundraiser for the local benevolent Knights of Columbus chapter, will have a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Registration with coffee and donuts will begin at 7:15 a.m. Lunch from the Pine Knolls Pub & Grill will also be provided to all the participants.

Entry fees for the Golf Classic, which has had the maximum number of participants the last two years, are $80 per player, which includes 18 holes of golf, lunch and a complimentary goody bag. There are opportunities to purchase two Tee Busters and two Mulligans for $5 each. Free beverages and snacks will also be available during the tournament.

There will also be cash prizes for the top team finishers, and prizes will be awarded to the four Closest to the Pin winners.

Any donations to the Knights of Columbus Holy Cross Council 8509 for its various charitable projects will be accepted.

There is no need to be a member of the Knights or Holy Cross Catholic Church to play.

The balance of the tournament proceeds will be used by the Holy Cross Council of the Knights of Columbus to be contributed to local charities. Previous gifts have benefitted: Room at the Inn, Shepherd’s Center, Samaritan Ministries Next Step Ministries, Winston-Salem Rescue Mission, Veterans Helping Veterans Heal (VHVH) Winston-Salem Boys & Girls Club, Shop with a Cop, Crisis Control and Ministry Birthright of Winston-Salem. Sponsor proceeds also benefit citizens in Forsyth County and beyond, including: Piney Grove Elementary School, Caleb Creek Elementary School, Cash Elementary School, Kernersville Elementary School, Sedge Garden Elementary School, Walkertown Elementary School and the Coats for Kids program.

Council 8509 has raised and distributed more than $500,000 dollars since 1990 through to this tournament and other fundraising events such as the Lenten fish fry dinners, ziti einners and pancake breakfasts at the church.

After seeing the success of the Council 8509 Coats for Kids program last year, Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough competed in the event last year and is expected to return again this year. He will be joined this time with Kernersville Police Department Chief Jason Tilley.

Council 850 will also sponsor three foursomes of first responders from the Kernersville Police Department, Kernersville Fire and Rescue Department and the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

Parks Chevrolet is sponsoring hole-in-one prizes on all par threes, with the standout prize being $25,000 toward a new car on the 11th hole.
