If winning experience was lacking at the top of the Wyndham Championship leaderboard after 36 holes, then Nico Echavarria made sure to change that narrative early Saturday at Sedgefield Country Club.
The reigning Cognizant Classic champ fired off a bogey-free, 8-under 62 during his third round — good for a new career low after carding 63 six times in his career.

Echavarria, who played in the final pairing with eventual winner Cameron Young last year, opened his scoring tear with an eagle at No. 5. He went on to circle three of his next four holes to finish off his front nine with a 30.
“We hit a 7-iron that I thought it went in the back bunker, I couldn’t tell with the shadows in the back of the green. It was 20 feet in the back fringe and jarred that,” he said of the eagle. “That was very good and it got the round going.”
The Moving Day performance lived up to its billing so much to the point that Echavarria had to reschedule his Sunday flight out of the Tar Heel State. He went into the clubhouse as the tournament’s leader at 11 under and sat one shot off Beau Hossler’s lead.
Coming into the week ranked No. 44 in the FedExCup standings, the Colombian native is locked in to play at the FedEx St. Jude’s Championship in Memphis next week.

It was an event he finished T-38 last year, coming off the stinging result at the Wyndham — one that he said has prompted a strong 2026 campaign that has included three T-10s including the win back in early March.
“Last year was an interesting year, I didn’t get a win but I had a lot of final pairings. That was new for me. I didn’t quite adjust to the challenge,” Echavarria told reporters Saturday. “I learned a lot from that day, it was a tough one. I was happy for Cam, but I had a very bad day. But I learned a lot from that day and I think that has helped me this year to have a consistent year.”
