The St. Louis Blues are trying to remain in the Western Conference wild-card race while NHL trade speculation swirls around captain Brayden Schenn.

Recent reports suggest the 33-year-old two-way center could draw plenty of interest in the trade market. However, he prefers to stay in St. Louis, saying management hasn’t approached him about waiving his no-trade clause.

On Saturday, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported some teams were interested in uniting Brayden with his older brother Luke, who is signed through next season with the Nashville Predators. The pair last played together with the Philadelphia Flyers from 2013 to 2016.

Acquiring the Schenn brothers would be an expensive move. Assuming Brayden waives his no-trade clause, he carries an average annual value of $6.5 million through 2027-28. Luke Schenn, meanwhile, has a $2.75-million cap hit.

That seems more like an off-season move when Brayden Schenn’s full no-trade becomes a 15-team no-trade list.

Could The Schenn Brothers Be Reunited Ahead Of The NHL Trade Deadline? However, Brayden and Luke Schenn experienced that before with the Philadelphia Flyers, and they could be teammates again before the March 7 trade deadline.

Turning to the Boston Bruins, they have a well-earned reputation under GM Don Sweeney as aggressive buyers at the trade deadline.

However, Sweeney told reporters over the weekend he intends to be more cautious at this year’s deadline. His club is jockeying for one of the Eastern Conference wild-card spots, but they’ve already played more games than the teams they’re trying to catch.

The Hockey News’ Michael DeRosa cited Friedman, who reported trade noise picked up regarding pending UFA Trent Frederic, a hard-nosed center who has scoring potential despite a tough campaign offensively.

NBC Sports Boston’s Nick Goss believes Sweeney won’t pursue rental players but could acquire players with term remaining on their contracts. He also expects the Bruins GM will listen to offers for Frederic, fellow pending UFA Justin Brazeau and RFA Morgan Geekie.

The Hockey News’ Adam Proteau thinks with defensemen Hampus Lindholm and Charlie McAvoy injured, it makes more sense for the team to be sellers at the NHL trade deadline and reset for the next season or two.

Without Top D-Men, The Bruins Selling At The NHL Trade Deadline Makes More Sense The Boston Bruins have had a pretty unfortunate season, but their situation isn’t improving.

Meanwhile, Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli suggested the Vegas Golden Knights could be a team worth watching leading up to the March 7 trade deadline. They have a history of major acquisitions near the deadline and could try again this season.

The Golden Knights have limited salary-cap space, no first-rounders until 2027 and a shallow prospect pool to draw on for trade bait. Nevertheless, Seravalli thinks they could garner some cap relief if sidelined defenseman Shea Theodore ($5.2 million cap hit) ends up on LTIR for the rest of the regular season.
