In what was otherwise a routine pre-season friendly, Newcastle winger Anthony Elanga had to be stretchered off following a two-footed challenge from Valencia’s José Gayà.
In the immediate aftermath of Gayà’s lunging tackle, a touchline brawl broke out, with the Valencia defender being shown a straight red card.
Fortunately for Elanga, the injury does not appear to be serious.

The Newcastle and Sweden forward is reported to be “up and walking” despite some “bruising to the shin.”
Newcastle went on to win the match 2-1, securing a pre-season trophy in Matthias Jaissle’s first game in charge.
