With the addition of these two inductees, there are now 82 members enshrined into the SDGA Hall of Fame, since its inception in 1977. A complete list of members can be found at https://www.sdga.org/hall-of-fame/.

Here’s more on the new inductees:

Jason Young

Young grew up in Pierre, where he excelled as a junior golfer and, under the tutelage of Mike Egan, developed a lifelong passion for the golf industry.

He went on to have a standout career at Northern State University, earning all-conference honors three times and leading the Wolves to multiple appearances in the NAIA National Championship, along with capturing several individual titles. In 1992, he claimed the SDGA 2-Man Championship.

Young became a PGA Member in 1998 and began his professional career at Hillsview Golf Course in Pierre, where he was instrumental in all aspects of operations. He distinguished himself as a premier instructor and as a respected mentor and coach to junior golfers.

He later moved to Rapid City to take the reins at the prestigious Golf Club at Red Rock, where he continued his leadership in golf operations and developed one of the region’s premier junior programs. Under his guidance Jason earned the SDGA Family Junior Program of the Year seven times at Red Rock and Hillsview.

Young has always been a strong supporter of the South Dakota Golf Association, frequently hosting events and serving as the PGA Advisor to the SDGA Board. He also holds the distinction of having the most appearances of any player in the SoDak Cup.

Barbara Krumm Spears

Dr. Barbara Spears, a native of Huron, SD, is the daughter of South Dakota Golf Hall of Fame member Irvin Krumm and a standout junior golfer, winning the Huron Country Club titles from 1952-1954. She burst on to the women’s golf scene in 1954 winning the first of her two consecutive SDGA Women’s Amateur Championships. Spears also finished as the runner-up the following year.

With no women’s golf team at the University of South Dakota, she played on the men’s team and was one of the first females to be inducted into the USD Athletic Hall of Fame in 1979.

Spears gave up competitive golf to pursue her dream of becoming a physician, completing her studies in Texas and before beginning her practice in Pierre. Over the years, she won many local events and played in the Women’s Amateur when it came to Pierre, finishing third in 1964 and fifth in 1969.
