You know time flies when the Stelvio is approaching its ninth anniversary. The original Alfa Romeo SUV, excluding the 2003 Kamal concept, will transition to the second generation later this year. Before its world premiere, the Italian brand is sharing images of a disguised prototype. The red and black camo plastered all over the body features the company crest with the Biscione dragon and the emblem of the city of Milan.
The Stellantis brand, headquartered in Turin, shipped the test vehicle all the way to Sweden for a series of cold-weather tests. Hiding underneath the disguise is an entirely new vehicle by dropping the billion-dollar Giorgio platform in favor of STLA Large. The architecture has already been used on the Dodge Charger, which comes with combustion engines and electric drivetrains.

The high-voltage sticker in the upper left corner of the windshield suggests Alfa Romeo was testing the EV. We also don’t see any exhaust tips at the back, leading us to believe this Stelvio prototype didn’t have a gas engine. Compared to the outgoing model, it appears to be larger. That would make sense since the STLA Large platform was developed for vehicles with a length from 187.6 to 201.8 inches (4764 to 5126 millimeters). The current SUV is only 184.5 inches (4687 millimeters) long.
What else? The second-gen Stelvio has flush door handles and a more rakish rear section. At the front, an upper, wide LED strip peeks through the camouflage. The cutout in disguise for the lower-mounted main headlights tells us that Alfa Romeo has opted for split lights, which are pretty common in 2025. At the back, the roof spoiler seemingly extends downward to flank the tailgate glass, although the camo might be playing tricks on us. We believe the test car is hiding thin strips of triangular taillights.
Alfa Romeo even went through the trouble of disguising the wheels. We assume the revamped Stelvio will feature a fresh take on the iconic Teledial wheels. If you’d rather have the sedan equivalent, the next Giulia won’t be a traditional sedan. It, too, might have a higher ground clearance, although it won’t sit as high as its SUV counterpart.
The all-new Stelvio will be officially unveiled later this year, but sales will not start until 2026 when the second generation of the modern Giulia is scheduled to debut.
