NORTON, Mass. – Nelly Korda just needed to feel something different on the greens. Anything.

Last week in Ontario, after she lost the No, 1 ranking, Korda put a Taylor Made Del Monte blade putter in the bag. During the opening round of the FM Championship, Korda took 29 putts in a 5-under 67 at TPC Boston that included seven birdies. The head is similar to the Scotty Cameron Korda used for part of last year.

“Just something new,” said Korda. “I had so much success with that head and I hit a couple before Toronto … obviously golf courses right now in Florida aren’t the best. Like the golf courses that I’m at just opened after being closed for a month.

“So there was a lot of sand on them. Wasn’t really sure how I really liked the putter, but I just went with it. I knew I had so much success with that kind of putter and felt confident … it’s a different grip, too. It’s a Super Stroke. I just picked it out of the group of putters that I had and that I liked, and kind of went with it.”

There have been a stunning 23 different winners on the LPGA this season and no player has won twice. Incredibly, Korda isn’t one of those winners.

Sei Young Kim and Allisen Corpuz pace the field after carding 7-under 65s.
