  • Ole Miss golfer Michael La Sasso is set to compete in the 2025 Sanderson Farms Championship.
  • Despite being from North Carolina, he considers the Mississippi-based tournament a home event.

Michael La Sasso doesn’t take for granted the chance to hop in his car and drive to a PGA event.

The Ole Miss golfer is relishing the opportunity to represent the state of Mississippi in the 2025 Sanderson Farms championship.

“Just kind of being around here, and there’s a lot of people from Ole Miss around me this week,” La Sasso said. “You know, kind of being able to be that guy this week is a pretty cool experience.”

La Sasso won the 2025 NCAA championship and set the Ole Miss men’s golf program record for the lowest average round (69.48). The 21-year-old aims to translate that momentum into his fifth PGA start at the Country Club of Jackson as he tees off on Oct. 2.

“It’s so easy to kind of get overwhelmed with everything that’s going on,” he said. “So just really kind of being present here and understanding, like, this is a home event for me, and just taking everything in and being, happy to be here and optimistic. Just proud to be an Ole Miss Rebel that’s playing in this event.”

Despite being a Raleigh, North Carolina, native, La Sasso still feels that the event feels like home, thanks to his time spent in the state, the encouragement he’s received from fans and having his parents in attendance.

“We only have one event for school that we play in Mississippi, so it’s always nice coming back and playing in the home state,” said La Sasso, a senior. “There’s a lot of people that have come up to me so far this week that are Ole Miss alums and stuff like that. Being around a good group of people, I’m really fortunate to be here.”

La Sasso said he and former Ole Miss players Kye Meeks, Jackson Suber and Braden Thornberry want to represent the state well in the tournament.

“I mean, these guys are definitely a little bit tighter, which is cool to watch,” he said. “Knowing these guys (how) they eliminate mistakes pretty easily, which is what I’m trying to do with my game. Just kind of learning and just knowing that if I go out and play my golf, I can come compete with these guys.”
