Shane van Gisbergen was involved in a big crash that led to a red flag midway through the second stage of the NASCAR San Diego race.

The Trackhouse Racing driver started on the pole. He got three-wide on a restart on Turn 1 of Lap 31 with Austin Hill and Connor Zilisch. But van Gisbergen backed out. Hill was unable to make the corner turn and pinched Zilisch against the wall, causing a big crash that also collected van Gisbergen.

The damage was so severe to van Gisbergen’s No. 97 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet that he took it straight to the garage.

Zilisch was also knocked out of the race.

The wall had to be repaired during the red flag.

Several other drivers got caught up in the carnage, including Ty Gibbs, Daniel Suarez, Ryan Blaney, John Hunter Nemechek, and Michael McDowell.

Riley Hebrst took the lead on the next restart.
