Chase Elliott on renewed excitement heading into the NASCAR playoffs
NASCAR Cup Series driver Chase Elliott said the regular season can get long and drawn out, making the playoffs something to look forward to.
- Denny Hamlin won the NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on October 12.
- Hamlin secured his spot in the championship race with his victory in the South Point 400.
- The win marked Hamlin’s 60th career victory and his second of the 2025 playoffs.
Denny Hamlin is bound for the NASCAR Cup Series championship race after winning the NASCAR Las Vegas race on Oct. 12.
Hamlin moved from 10th place to sixth after a crash with 31 laps left brought on when William Byron slammed into the back of Ty Dillon, who was pitting in the South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Hamlin moved into second near the end of the race and took the lead from Chase Briscoe with only four laps to go. He held off Kyle Larson, who finished second, Christopher Bell, Briscoe and Tyler Reddick winning by a final margin of 1.5 seconds.
It was the 60th career win for the Hamlin, 44, who clinched the first of four spots for the championship race at Phoenix on Nov. 2.
It was Hamlin’s second 2025 playoff win after claiming the World Wide Technology Raceway on Sept. 7. He also won four races in the regular season.
Hamlin is at the top of the playoff points standings heading to the Oct. 19 race at Talladega.
Byron wasn’t the only driver in the playoffs who crashed out of the race. Ryan Blaney, who was second coming into race, blew a tire, hit the wall and destroyed his car in the first stage.
