With the NASCAR Cup Series set to resume this weekend, Joe Gibbs Racing had an update to share regarding Denny Hamlin.
Hamlin has been representing Joe Gibbs Racing since the 2005 season. He has 58 wins and well over 300 top-ten finishes over the past two decades. Although he’s not getting any younger, he remains one of the best drivers in the sport with four wins this year.
That being said, Joe Gibbs Racing announced Friday that Hamlin won’t be going anywhere this offseason. The two sides have officially agreed to a multi-year contract extension.
“I really appreciate Denny and everything he has meant to our organization,” Joe Gibbs said. “It is just really special when you think about everything we’ve experienced over the past 20 years, from that first moment when J.D. (Gibbs) recognized his talent at a test session, until now. It is remarkable in any sport to compete at the level Denny has for this long and we are thrilled he has been able to spend his entire career with us.”
Now that Hamlin’s deal with Joe Gibbs Racing is official, fans are convinced he’ll continue to rack up wins in his 40s. Some are predicting he’ll have at least 70 career victories in the Cup Series.
“Wow. Great for the sport and hope he continues to race up to his talent level And also NASCAR brass is probably furious about this,” one fan said.
“He’s gonna retire with 70+ wins calling it now,” a second fan wrote on X.
“I really wanna see a driver nowadays be a mark martin or Harry gant where they are competitive into their late 40s early 50s. Harvick was the closest we seen but he pulled the plug. Hopefully Hamlin can stick around for a much longer time and stay on top of his game,” another fan said.
“The best decision both parties could’ve made! Let’s go,” a social media user commented.
Clearly, NASCAR fans wanted Hamlin to stay with Joe Gibbs Racing.
Hamlin will try to back up his win at Dover this Sunday when the Cup Series heads over to Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
