Bubba Wallace seemed well on his way to picking up a much-needed win on Sunday at Kansas Speedway, but he was unable to prevail in a battle against Denny Hamlin on the final lap of overtime.

Wallace, who is on the outside looking in for the Round of 8, brushed against the wall after making contact with Hamlin near Turn 3. Although they were both vying for the win, it was Chase Elliott who drove right past them to steal the checkered flag.

On this week's episode of the "Happy Hour" podcast, Kevin Harvick commented on Hamlin and Wallace's battle at Kansas.

Harvick ultimately believes Hamlin broke an unwritten rule during Sunday's race.

"I’ve been in a position where Denny Hamlin is in currently where you drive for another team and you own cars. And it’s really, really difficult because if he doesn’t drive in there and try to win the race and do what he did, his team is gonna be mad. When it worked out the way that it did, the only rule he broke is one of you better win," Harvick said, via On3. "One of you better win and it took both teams out of contention, and they handed a gimme to Chase Elliott. They had everything under control. That’s kind of the unwritten rule — if you’re going to bang doors with your teammate and you’re going to do all those things, you better make sure one of you wins the race. I know they’re not technically teammates, but they might as well be with the way this all goes."

Hamlin makes opinion of Wallace clear.

Despite what transpired at Kansas Speedway this past weekend, Hamlin has made it known that he has a ton of appreciation for Wallace. He explained why on his "Actions Detrimental" podcast.

"Bubba’s turnaround over the last few years has just been — I can’t believe it, truthfully," Hamlin said. "The maturity he has shown — he’s been the lead car at 23XI really the entire year. I think the 45 [Tyler Reddick] might have him on average finish because he doesn’t have as many DNFs, but the 23 has been the fastest freakin’ car we’ve got, and that’s something that just, I can’t believe it."

Wallace probably isn't eager to sing Hamlin's praises at this moment. To be fair, he's now facing a do-or-die situation this Sunday at Charlotte.

The Round of 8 for the Cup Series playoffs will be decided following this weekend's race. Wallace is currently 26 points below the cut line.
