To mark its return after nearly 20 years, “King of the Hill” is teaming up with Cedar Rapids native and NASCAR driver Joey Gase for the upcoming Hy-Vee Perks 250 and Iowa Corn 350 in Newton.
Gase will drive in two “King of the Hill”-themed cars, one numbered 66 for American professional stock car racing team Garage 66 and the other numbered 53 for his team, Joey Gase Motorsports. Each vehicle features characters from the show, including the main character, Hank Hill.
Set in the fictional town of Arlen, Texas, the original series followed the life of Hank Hill, a seller of propane and propane accessories, as he navigates the oddities of suburban life alongside his family and eccentric neighbors. The series ran for 13 seasons from 1997 to 2009 and has been revived to premiere exclusively on the streaming service Hulu on Monday, Aug. 4.
“I am excited to have “King of the Hill” not only on my Xfinity car, but also my Cup car, at my home track, Iowa Speedway,” Gase, 32, said in a news release. “It is a show that I have been watching since I was a teen, and it’s going to be really cool to help them set off their brand-new season on Hulu.”
Gase placed 16th during the 2024 Hy-Vee Perks 250, his best NASCAR Xfinity Series finish of last year, according to the news release. He has nearly 400 starts in the NASCAR national series, including 18 in his native state.

The Hy-Vee Perks 250 is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Aug. 2 at Iowa Speedway in Newton.
