The NASCAR Cup Series heads to the Daytona International Speedway this Saturday night for the running of the Coke Zero Sugar 400. It marks the final race before The Chase, scheduled for 160 laps and 400 miles around “The World Center of Racing.”
This weekend’s race has a jam-packed entry list with 41 teams attempting to run the Coke Zero Sugar 400. Of course, the usual 36 chartered teams are entered for Saturday’s race, while five non-chartered teams will attempt to make the 40-car field.

41 NASCAR Cup Series teams entered for Daytona
The most notable non-chartered entry is the No. 67 23XI Racing Toyota driven by Corey Heim. This season, Heim has put the Cup Series field on notice by scoring his first two career wins at Naval Base Coronado and Indianapolis, respectively, as a part-time driver.
The other non-chartered entries include Joey Gase (No. 44, NY Racing Team), Casey Mears (No. 62, Beard Motorsports), Gray Gaulding (No. 66, Garage 66), and Daniel Dye (No. 78, Live Fast Motorsports).
Because NASCAR only allows a maximum of 40 cars in a Cup Series race, one of the five non-chartered entries will fail to qualify. The fastest four non-chartered teams in qualifying make the race.

In the event that qualifying gets rained out, owner points will determine which four non-chartered entries make the field. Because the No. 62 Beard Motorsports is ranked lowest in owner points among Saturday’s entries, Casey Mears would not qualify if the single-car session is rained out.
