The start of the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season has been entertaining and included plenty of storylines through the first quarter (nine races). William Byron opened the campaign by recording his second-straight win at the Daytona 500.

Speaking of consecutive winners — Christopher Bell followed up Byron’s win and won three in a row at Atlanta, COTA and Phoenix. Denny Hamlin went back-to-back at Martinsville and Darlington.

For many NASCAR fans, in addition to the racing action, the results and the stories they have produced, there’s been another feature that’s made the racing even more enjoyable. That’s the Max in-car coverage, which has changed the fan viewing experience by including in-car cameras, in-race stats and team radio, all in one convenient package. Making it all exponentially better is the ability to rewind and rewatch anything for any driver that happens during a race.

Fans have understandably raved about Max’s product through the first eight events. However, that tone dramatically shifted in the ninth race of the 2025 season at Bristol. That’s because the audio was missing. Instead, all you heard was the roar of the engine for the duration of the race.

The Athletic’s Jeff Gluck was among many who took to social media to express his displeasure with the missing audio.

“Probably overreacting, but it’s pretty disappointing to have paid a bunch for those Max in-car cams, only to immediately have the price jacked up in order to keep them, only to then have the scanners not working on them today. Very cool,” the veteran reporter wrote.

Fans have been in the dark on why it happened and if it was by design or accident.

According to NASCAR, there was a technical issue with the audio at Bristol and it will be back for this weekend’s race at Talladega. Race coverage begins at 3 p.m. ET on Fox.
