Exciting 20-year-old heavyweight prodigy, Moses Itauma (12-0, 10 KOs), headlines for the first time in his career this Saturday night, August 16, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia against world title contender, Dillian Whyte (31-3, 21 KOs).
The British heavyweights will clash over 12-rounds, live on DAZN, supported by Nick Ball vs Sam Goodman.
Ahead of the biggest test of his three-year pro career so far, the powerful puncher from Kent, England, who has been tipped to take over heavyweight boxing, shared his confident predictions for fight night.
“Dillian is a big name, good opposition,” the Slovakian-born boxer told the Toe2Toe podcast. “It’s for me to go in there and do the job. I’ve got to box to a game plan. If I box to the game plan, it shouldn’t be a long night.”
Enriko Moses Itauma turned professional with English promoter Frank Warren after winning all 24 of his amateur bouts, 11 by KO, and he is already headlining PPV shows aged just 20.
“This is my first headline show, it’s in Saudi Arabia against Dillian Whyte and I’m only 20 years old,” Itauma said.
“Just having that comes with pressure, but I love a bit of pressure. I acknowledge it, but I don’t feel it. I know it’s there, but I don’t let it sink in – only because it does me no favours. I’m ready to perform Saturday night.”
Ranked WBO #1, a statement victory over former WBC #1 Whyte would only intensify talks of a showdown with undisputed heavyweight ruler Oleksandr Usyk.
Trained by Ben Davison, Chatham’s Itauma discussed the potential of a world title showdown with the Ukrainian, “I think it will happen. I think Joseph Parker and Agit Kabayel do deserve the opportunity to fight for those belts. But you don’t get what you deserve nowadays, you get what you negotiate for.
“If I am able to beat Dillian Whyte in good fashion, and I’m already ranked No.1 with the WBO, so I do feel I’ll be in a position to fight him.”
Moses famously sparred world champion Lawrence Okolie in his school uniform when he was just 16, after running to the boxing gym immediately after school finished. He is currently unbeaten in 24 amateur bouts and 12 pro fights, with 23 KOs in total.
