Miranda Wang had one of the more impressive turnarounds on a golf course in recent memory.
Playing in the first round of the LPGA’s Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, Wang opened with three straight pars but then disaster struck on the par-4 fourth hole with a quadruple bogey 8. After making par on the next two holes she was 4 over just a third of the way through her day. But then something clicked.
Wang would birdie six consecutive holes (Nos. 7 through 12) to get back on the right side of par.
Then, after three straight pars, Wang closed with three straight birdies on Nos. 16, 17 and 18.
Add ’em up and that’s a 5-under 66 on a scorecard that included a quad 8. Put another way, she was 4 over through six and then 9 under over over the final 12 holes.
It was just three weeks ago that Wang, a rookie in 2025, won her first LPGA title in Boston at the FM Championship. Through 18 holes, she’s tied for 18th but is only three shots back of co-leaders Sarah Schmelzel and Minami Katsu.
