Quarterbacks are the talk of the town in the Big Apple this offseason.
Both the Giants and Jets are in the market for a new man under center after moving on from Daniel Jones and Aaron Rodgers, respectively.
Big Blue had a revolving door of mediocre quarterback play for the entirety of last season after Jones was shipped out of town — before ultimately signing on a deal with the Vikings — and now Tommy DeVito is the lone option remaining on their roster.
Gang Green still has veteran backup Tyrod Taylor as a potential starter, but the new front office will certainly look to bring in some competition whether it comes from free agency, the trade market, or even the draft.
With both teams sitting in the top-10 of this years draft, the latter option certainly could be where they make their splash.
On that front, University of Miami quarterback and potential No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward, told reporters Friday morning that both the Giants and Jets are among the teams he had a formal meeting with this week in Indianapolis.
Ward enjoyed both sit-downs and he took some time to praise the weapons each club has.
“Getting a chance to watch their offense, and the players they have — they have Malik [Nabers] and they have a good defense. It’s a lot of similar concepts to what I did in previous years at Incarnate World and Miami,” Ward said on the Giants.
He added that playing in the Jets’ offense would be “elite — especially with the receiving core they have, the defense they have. Talking with their head coach for the first time was exciting. The Jets are not too far off, maybe a couple of pieces, I’m hoping that I can be one of them.”
Ward, like Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, won’t be throwing at the Combine this week.
The 22-year-old Heisman Trophy finalist certainly doesn’t need to, as he is already viewed as one of the top prospects in this entire draft class after throwing for 4,313 yards and an FBS-best 39 touchdowns last season at Miami.
The Giants have an outside chance of him falling into their laps at the third overall pick, but like the Jets, they’d likely have to trade up if they want Ward to call MetLife Stadium home for years to come.
Both GM’s kept that door open while speaking with reports earlier this week at the Combine.
