The Mets have made a couple more minor league signings this offseason.
Joey Meneses, the first baseman/outfielder who played for the Washington Nationals in 2024, has reportedly signed a deal with the Mets, according to The Post’s Jon Heyman.
The 32-year-old played 76 games for the Nationals in 2024 where he slashed .231/.291/.302. He hit three home runs and drove in 42 runs while posting a .593 OPS. It was a down year for Meneses after he slashed .275/.321/.401 with 13 homers and 89 RBI in 2023. He also played 154 games for Washington that season.
Meneses has played most of his major league career at first base (109 games), but does have some experience in the outfield. He started one game in right field in 2023 but 25 games in right field and left field in 2022.
The second signing is for right-hander Hobie Harris, according to MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo.
Harris, 31, spent 2024 in the Twins’ Triple-A system where he pitched to a 4-6 record and a 6.79 ERA. However, he posted a 10.3 K/9 in his 44 games last season.
Harris has only 16 appearances under his belt in the majors, all with the Nationals in 2023. In that time, he pitched to a 5.12 ERA and a 1.76 WHIP.
The Meneses and Harris signings are just a few moves Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns has made since the end of the 2024 season. The big move so far is the trade with the Tampa Bay Rays for outfielder Jose Siri. He also signed RHP Justin Hagenman, RHP Rico Garcia, RHP Kevin Herget, infielder Donovan Walton, and brought back outfielder Rafael Ortega, all on minor league deals.
