The Mets and right-handed pitcher Sean Reid-Foley are staying together.

After being placed on outright waivers earlier in the week, Reid-Foley did not receive a claim from another team and was outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse, the team announced Thursday night.

The Mets made the move to remove Reid-Foley from the 40-man roster, however, the 29-year-old was exposed to being claimed by another club. Since that didn’t happen, the Mets will have the veteran arm in the minors in case they need him, and they could, considering how long a 162-game season is for relievers.

For what it’s worth, Reid-Foley pitched well for the Mets last season. In 23 games, he pitched to a 1.66 ERA and 1.25 WHIP, with 25 strikeouts across 21.2 innings. But he also dealt with shoulder issues that kept him out for the first month of the season and for the second half of 2024. His last start in the big leagues came against the Texas Rangers on June 19.

Reid-Foley pitched in only one game this spring. He allowed one hit and one walk across 0.2 innings on March 1 against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Now the question is, who will take Reid-Foley’s spot on the 40-man roster? That’s something manager Carlos Mendoza and the rest of the organization will decide in due time.
