Jon McConnell, Daina Moorehouse and Lisa O’Rourke are all through to medal fights in the European Boxing Championships, but Shannon Sweeney missed out on a quarter-final place after defeat in Sofia on Saturday.
Commonwealth Games gold medallist McConnell, who beat Turkey’s Necat Ekinci on Thursday, claimed a 4-1 unanimous decision win against Poland’s Damian Durkacz in his last-16 bout.

The 23-year-old will now face Italy’s Gabriele Guidi Rontani in the quarter-finals on Monday.
Moorehouse also progressed to the last eight as she beat Bulgarian home favourite Zlatislava Chukanova, who she also overcame in the Olympic qualifiers for Paris, by split decision.
The 25-year-old Wicklow fighter was forced to take a count in the final round but still claimed the 3-2 win and will now take on World and European bronze medallist Laura Fuentes Fernandez from Spain in the next round.
O’Rourke, the 2022 World champion, marked her return to the ring with a unanimous decision win over Greece’s Vasiliki Stavridou in her last-16 fight.

After dominating the first two rounds, she then forced two standing counts in the last to ease to victory and will come up against Team GB’s Emily Asquith for the chance to claim a medal.
Sweeney was beaten 4-1 by Italian Chiara Mosetti in her last-16 bout after losing the final two rounds.
