MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Mavericks golf team placed second in their tournament at Moses Lake Golf Club on Monday afternoon.

“All the kids on the team felt they could and should have played better,” said Mavs coach Terry Melbye. “It lets us know who the competition is and some things we have to work on.”

The weather on the course had some dark clouds in the sky with a little bit of rain and about 10-mile-an-hour winds having some effect on the golfers.

Halfway through the tournament, the Mavs had fallen behind by eight strokes and were trailing behind Eastmont, who at the time were also the only team who were golfing above par.

Junior Mason Bradford and the number one golfer on the team ended the day with a 74, going just two above par and taking third out of the top three golfers on the course, said Melbye.

“I played alright, wind started to blow and just had a bad stretch towards the end,” said Bradford. “Got unlucky a few times, but it’s alright.”

Bradford said he felt he did good in his putting and managing the course throughout the tournament, but he still wants to continue to put focus on improving his skills as a whole since he knows he can do better and that nothing is ever perfect. He also is looking forward to coming back next time in districts.

“Mental game is 90% of it, and I just felt like I could work on that and just keep being better,” said Bradford.

The Mavs will play in their next tournament at 10 a.m. April 14 at Eisenhower High School.
