Matt DiBenedetto is set to make his return to NASCAR competition next month, giving the veteran driver another opportunity to get back behind the wheel.
DiBenedetto will drive the No. 42 Young’s Motorsports Chevrolet in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on October 3. Magnesium Performance Wheels will sponsor the effort.

The announcement gives DiBenedetto another chance to compete at the national level after spending much of 2026 away from NASCAR’s three national series. He attempted to qualify for the Cup Series race at Darlington earlier this year with Joey Gase Motorsports but did not make the field.
DiBenedetto brings plenty of experience to the Young’s Motorsports organization. The California native has made 248 Cup Series starts, along with 127 starts in what is now the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and 43 in the Truck Series.
Las Vegas is also a track where DiBenedetto has enjoyed some of the strongest moments of his Cup Series career. He finished runner-up there twice in 2020, coming extremely close to earning his first Cup Series victory. His most recent O’Reilly Series start at the track came last year, when he finished 19th.
DiBenedetto’s career has included plenty of highs and lows. While he never reached Victory Lane in the Cup Series, he collected three runner-up finishes and established himself as a respected veteran during his seven-plus years competing at NASCAR’s highest level.

He also has a NASCAR national-series victory on his résumé, winning a Truck Series race at Talladega in 2022. His experience could make him an interesting driver to watch when he climbs into the No. 42 Chevrolet at Las Vegas.
Young’s Motorsports has used several different drivers in the No. 42 this season, making DiBenedetto’s addition another opportunity for the team to evaluate its program. The veteran’s experience could provide valuable feedback while also giving him a chance to show that he still has plenty left in the tank.
For DiBenedetto, the Las Vegas race represents more than just another start. It is another opportunity to remind the NASCAR world that Matt DiBenedetto is not finished racing yet.
