AUGUSTA, Ga. ― The shots. The moments. Located on the Masters Tournament app, the “Masters Vault” was announced this year, highlighting every shot by any player since 2019.
Also in the database are gems from as far back as 1968. To access a certain moment, key words will trigger results. For instance, “Nicklaus 15th hole 1974.” And poof, there’s Jack, hiking his pants and stepping into the pond, right-foot-first.

Without removing his shoe, Nicklaus planted … blasted a wedge … tap-in birdie.
The second and seventh greens at the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club.
The Golden Bear, playing with a soaked shoe for the final three holes, lost to Gary Player by three. Nicklaus, through email, said he didn’t recall the magic, which was played 52 years prior.
Yet, despite thousands of moments in the Masters vault, two key shots are void of results.
-
“Jeff Maggert 13th hole 1994”
-
“Jeff Sluman 4th hole 1992”
Fifty-five Masters Tournaments were played prior to 1992, and 33 have been conducted since. No one has duplicated Sluman’s hole-in-one on No. 4. Sadly, there’s no proof of the shot.
Also without footage is Maggert’s double eagle in 1994 — the only one ever on Augusta’s famed 13th hole.

Despite lacking video evidence, one onlooker was John Cherwa, a reporter with the Los Angeles Times, who wrote: “Maggert stared in disbelief for a second, then raised his arms. He gave his caddie, Brian Sullivan, a high-five and strode up the fairway to several standing ovations from the early arriving crowd.”
In all, only four double-eagles have been struck at the Masters — one at each of the golf course’s par 5s:
-
No. 2: Louis Oosthuizen, 2012, final round (4-iron, 253 yards)
-
No. 8: Bruce Devlin, 1967, first round (4-wood, 248 yards)
-
No. 13: Jeff Maggert, 1994, final round (3-iron, 222 yards)
-
No. 15: Gene Sarazen, 1935, final round (4-wood, 235 yards)
Of the four shots, only Oosthuizen’s can be located on the Masters Vault.
