By now, it is well-known that Manchester City holds a strong interest in signing Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson this summer. The England international, with his work rate combined with his technical ability, looks to be the ideal midfield addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad. However, if City want to sign Anderson this summer in a swift manner, the upcoming World Cup may scupper their plans, especially given that Elliot Anderson figures to play a prominent role for England in the United States. If Anderson has a strong World Cup, Nottingham Forest’s asking price to sell one of their prized assets may rise sharply.
On that front, a new report indicates that Manchester City are eager to conclude the signing of Elliot Anderson ahead of this summer’s World Cup. That would be ideal for City as they face a busy summer in the transfer market.

Manchester City are reportedly aiming to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest ahead of this summer’s World Cup.
In a Q&A article for the Daily Mail, reporter Nathan Salt has provided an update on the situation surrounding Elliot Anderson. Salt reports that Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson is Manchester United’s number-one midfield target for this summer. However, Salt reports that the talk in agent circles is that Manchester City are leading the chase to sign Elliot Anderson. Furthermore, Salt reports that City are hoping to conclude a deal to sign Elliot Anderson ahead of this summer’s World Cup. It is also reported that City and Manchester United are aware that Nottingham Forest could demand more than £100 million if Anderson stars for England at the World Cup.
In an ideal world, City will act swiftly in this summer’s transfer window.
With this summer’s World Cup running from June 11th until July 19th, it does figure to be an impediment to clubs’ summer transfer business. Players, such as Elliot Anderson, who are due to play in the tournament will not want to be distracted by speculation over their future during the World Cup. They will be solely focused on international duty, and any transfer moves involving players at the World Cup are unlikely to be concluded until the tournament ends. That is understandable given what is at stake at this year’s World Cup in the United States.

However, from a Manchester City point of view, they will be eager to get as much business done as possible before the World Cup begins. That would be ideal for City. This summer figures to be a busy one at City. It would appear that City will be in the market for possibly two midfielders and a right-back. The quicker City can conclude one signing, they can move on to another. Ideally, City would sign Elliot Anderson ahead of the World Cup, and that would tick one summer transfer window box. That is dependent on Nottingham Forest’s willingness to sell a player who seems destined to leave them ahead of the World Cup. It would be understandable if Forest decided to delay selling Anderson, as if he plays well at the World Cup, they could extract a bigger transfer fee from City, for example.
Manchester City seem eager to sign Elliot Anderson ahead of this summer’s World Cup. If that were to occur, that would be ideal for City. Whether or not City can succeed in that goal remains to be seen.
