Hannah Green fell short of her bid to three-peat at the JM Eagle LA Championship, but her fine play will make an impact well beyond this week. The 28-year-old Aussie made a pledge before the tournament started to donate $500 for each birdie and $1,000 for every eagle she made to fire recovery efforts in the Los Angeles area.

Green’s 19 birdies and one eagle at El Caballero Country Club added up to $10,500 in donations for the week. Green came to media day several weeks ago and saw former LPGA player Mo Martin and heard stories about how the fires had impacted her family and felt inspired to do something.

“I did a little bit of a tally last night, and, you know, at the start of the week I didn’t really know how many birdies we were going to make,” said Green, “so I was hoping that it was going to be a course where we make a ton.

“Obviously it has been, so definitely a lot of opportunities where I could have made some more, so I’m grateful that I did make the amount that I did.”

Green finished at 16 under for the tournament after a closing 67 to take a share of ninth.

In addition, tournament sponsors Walter and Shirley Wang have donated $1.5 million to the relief efforts and pledged an additional $5 million in relief aid.
