NASCAR is heading to Circuit of the Americas for the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix.
This is the fifth time NASCAR is heading to COTA with some mixed reviews with some exciting racing and questionable officiating in poor weather over the years.
Here is a look back over the last five years of NASCAR racing at COTA.

Chase Elliott wins rain-shortened COTA race in 2021
NASCAR’s first trip to COTA was exciting to see the facility’s ability to host the most popular racing league in the country. However, the NASCAR Cup Series race, the premier event of the weekend, was soaked by rain.
Drivers were frustrated with NASCAR forcing drivers to continue to race through the downpour and standing water on the racing surface. NASCAR ended the race 14 laps short of the scheduled distance due to the weather conditions.
Chase Elliott earned the first NASCAR win at COTA in the rain-shortened event.
Ross Chastain bumps his way to first win in 2022
NASCAR’s second trip to COTA was smoother than its first with the weather cooperating for a beautiful day for racing.
The racing, however, was aggressive. Ross Chastain battled AJ Allmendinger and Alex Bowman in the closing laps, including bumping Allmendinger and Bowman in the final corner of the final lap to earn his first NASCAR Cup Series win and the first win for Trackhouse Racing.
Tyler Reddick holds on for win in 2023
Tyler Reddick earned the first NASCAR Cup Series win for 23XI Racing with a triple-overtime win, holding off Kyle Busch with a 1.411-second win at COTA.
Reddick grabbed the lead on the long and wide hairpin in turn 1 of the third restart and was able to drive away and hold on for the victory and establish 23XI Racing, owned by Denny Hamlin and NBA legend Michael Jordan, in NASCAR as a race-winning threat.
William Byron earns dominant victory in 2024
Last season’s EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix ended similar to the Daytona 500, with William Byron in victory lane.
Byron won the pole for the race and pushed his lead to over three seconds with 10 laps to go. However, Joe Gibbs Racing driver Christopher Bell closed the distance to just .692 seconds coming to the checkered flag.
