Anything can happen in tennis. You can’t fully predict who you’ll be matched against until the set is announced, leaving you little time to prepare a game plan. Also, even the most well-rounded tennis players have bad days. Stringing together consecutive match wins is tough enough when it comes to one major, let alone multiple.
That is just what Carlos Alcaraz has put together. He has won back-to-back Wimbledon titles and is going for the rare three-peat in 2025. Throughout making three straight trips to the Wimbledon finals, Alcaraz has amassed a 20-match win streak at the major.

Bjorn Borg
Borg dominated men’s tennis from 1973 to 1984, with a brief return from retirement from 1991-93. He made six straight Wimbledon finals from 1976 to 1981, winning five majors in a row from 1976 to 1980. It was an utterly dominant stretch in tennis history, and the only person to beat him in a Wimbledon final is John McEnroe, who won Wimbledon in 1981, 4-6, 7-6, 7-6, 6-4.
Roger Federer
Federer had a 22-year tennis career from 1999 to 2021. He couldn’t be touched in the mid-2000s, dominating both Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. At Wimbledon, Federer won six tournaments in seven years from 2003-09. His lone loss in the 2008 finals was to Rafael Nadal. Federer and Borg are tied for the most consecutive Wimbledon championships in a row, with five apiece.
Novak Djokovic
Djokovic began his career in 2005 and is still active. His playing career is winding down, but he was a 2023 Wimbledon win away from completing the Golden Slam 2023 by winning each major.
Djokovic won four consecutive Wimbledons, but they weren’t in consecutive years. He won in 2018 and 2019, but the 2020 tournament was cancelled due to COVID-19. When play resumed in 2021, he won that year and in 2022. His streak came to an end in the 2023 Wimbledon finals. There, he matched up with Alcaraz, who secured his first career championship at Wimbledon.

Pete Sampras
Sampras has two of the longest streaks in Wimbledon history. He won four consecutive Wimbledons from 1997 to 2000, but lost in the fourth round in 2001. Before that, Sampras won three Wimbledons in a row from 1993-95. That streak came to an end in the 1996 quarterfinals. Federer has the most career Wimbledon championships with eight, but Sampras is tied with Djokovic for second all-time with seven championships.
Rafael Nadal
Nadal dominated the French Open clay courts, but didn’t find nearly the success at Wimbledon. He won 14 French Opens, but only two Wimbledons. Nadal won Wimbledon in 2008, and then didn’t participate in the 2009 Wimbledon due to injury. He returned in 2010 and won that year, before losing in 2011 to Djokovic in the finals.
Carlos Alcaraz
Alcaraz has competed at Wimbledon four times in his career. In his debut in 2021, he was eliminated in the second round, and then was booted in the fourth round in 2022. Alcaraz then won Wimbledon for the first time in 2023 and followed it up with a successful title defense in 2024. He is now riding a 20-match win streak, and he could surpass Nadal by beating No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the 2025 finale.
