According to the original report from TeamTalk, Tottenham Hotspur have already held discussions with Liverpool as they explore whether Gakpo could be a viable attacking addition this summer. It comes at a point when Liverpool’s forward line is changing quickly, with Mohamed Salah gone, Federico Chiesa expected to move on, and new signing Victor Munoz arriving from Osasuna.
Munoz, signed for €40m, is primarily a left-sided winger. That immediately creates a question around Gakpo’s role, particularly with Rio Ngumoha also expected to receive more first-team opportunities next season.

For Liverpool, this is not simply about whether Gakpo is good enough. He clearly is. The question is whether he fits into the structure Iraola wants to build.
With Munoz likely to see minutes from the left, Ngumoha pushing through, and Hugo Ekitike expected to compete centrally once fully recovered from his achilles injury, Gakpo may find himself squeezed.
His reported £250k per week contract also makes this a serious financial discussion. Tottenham would need to commit heavily, both in transfer fee and salary, if they are to make the deal work.
Liverpool Must Set Clear Valuation
Liverpool should not be rushed into a soft sale. Gakpo remains a high-quality forward, capable of playing wide or centrally, and that versatility has real market value.

Gakpo has never felt like a failed signing. Far from it. He has had important moments, shown intelligence in possession, and often carried himself like a player who understands the demands of the club. The issue is that he has rarely looked nailed on as the first-choice option in one defined role.

That matters now. Iraola needs clarity, intensity and specialists. If Liverpool are building around a more aggressive, front-foot system, then every forward position has to be planned properly.
The concern is selling too much attacking depth too quickly. Salah has gone, Chiesa could follow, and Gakpo leaving would make this feel like a full reset rather than a refresh. That can work, but only if the recruitment is ruthless and accurate.
If Spurs are serious, Liverpool should listen. But this cannot be a bargain deal. Gakpo is entering his prime, he is proven in England, and he would strengthen a direct rival.
