Liverpool are reportedly planning a bold move and it’s one that could replace Alexander Isak already.
Correio da Manha reports that Liverpool are in the market for Luis Suarez of Sporting CP. In fact, they’re apparently accelerating their interest in an effort to get the deal done quickly.

Suarez has been in sensational form for Sporting this season, scoring 33 times across all competitions. There will be more to come, too, of course.
Newcastle United are also pursuing this one and that does make sense. They’re in desperate need of a goalscorer after neither Yoanne Wissa nor Nick Woltemade were able to fill the void left by Alexander Isak.
However, it’s notable that Liverpool – the team that signed Isak – are the ones battling them. It actually reads as though. Suarez is something of a replacement for the Swede, whose difficult debut campaign has been interrupted by a leg break.
Is this a sign, then, that Liverpool aren’t willing to go all-in on Isak? They don’t know how their record signing will recover from his injury, after all, and it’s entirely possible that they’re chasing a striker to fill the void left by the Swede, much as Newcastle are.

Suarez is now 28 and not a player for the long-term. He’s someone you sign to score goals for you now, which is supposed to be Isak’s role at Liverpool ahead of the younger Hugo Ekitike.
But now it seems the Reds may have a different name in mind for that role.
Alexander Isak: Situation Summary
As of 29 March 2026, Alexander Isak is in the final stages of recovery from a fractured fibula sustained against Tottenham in December. Manager Arne Slot has confirmed that while Isak will miss the FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City on 4 April, he is targeting a return for the Champions League quarter-final against PSG later in the month.

Season Statistics
Isak’s debut season at Anfield has been heavily disrupted by injuries. In 16 appearances across all competitions, he has recorded 3 goals and 1 assist. His last goal came in the same match in which he suffered his long-term leg injury.
Transfer Rumours
Despite his limited game time, rumours have surfaced regarding a potential summer exit. Reports suggest his representatives have explored interest from Barcelona, as the striker allegedly feels their tactical setup suits him better. Liverpool, having invested 125 million pounds in the Swede, remains officially committed to him as a long-term successor in their attack, though the situation remains fluid ahead of the summer window.
