Bolstering the team with impact players is now going to be key. Most of the important transfer work has been taken care of, although a striker and a centre-back are still favoured to join, but we’re now into the part of the window where opportunistic moves are considered if the price is right.
One such attacking recruit might be favoured at Chelsea after their impressive performances.
Liverpool are monitoring Christopher Nkunku
According to L’Equipe, the Reds are interested in the French forward.
The 27-year-old has it difficult to translate his form at Leipzig over to Chelsea and so just two years after his initial move, the signs are suggesting that he could be headed out the door this summer.
He’s averaging a goal contribution every 125 minutes, but 10 of his 23 goals and assists have come in the Conference League, which the Blues won at the end of last season, beating Real Betis 4-1.
In the latest Club World Cup campaign, he delivered a mixture of performances. At times, he was looking promising, to such an extent that Chelsea fans considered the idea that he might remain at the club for next season, but it appears as though he is still headed elsewhere.
A potential deal would cost around £35m, which is £15m less than Chelsea paid for him in 2023, although a move for him would still be a gamble that Liverpool would have to heavily weigh up.
Of course, he would be playing a supporting role rather than being a regular starter, which might beneficial given his ability to play a number off positions, be it attacking midfield, striker or right-wing.
But he has struggled in the Premier League, so Liverpool would need to feel confident in their ability to get a different tune out of him, compared to Enzo Maresca and Mauricio Pochettino’s efforts.

Whether the Reds will press forward with this deal is unknown, but he certainly has the potential to be a game-changer, although whether he can recreate his Leipzig form is going to be a big factor.
