The Liverpool hierarchy have taken a strong stance on Arne Slot’s future. Here’s how things will go.
Paul Gorst of the Liverpool Echo reports that there simply will not be an interim head coach at Liverpool. This comes as pressure mounts on Arne Slot after another terrible result at the weekend.

The Reds are at serious risk of missing out on the UEFA Champions League places. Despite that, the club’s hierarchy will not take action on Slot until at least the end of the season.
“When Liverpool searched for Jurgen Klopp‘s successor, it was one that took the best part of six months before Slot emerged as the preferred candidate and the enormous dossier produced on the Dutchman by the club, which was said to have been around 60 pages, was indicative of how meticulous they were in their recruitment drive,” writes Gorst.
“It’s why the idea of dispensing with Slot now and bringing in a stop-gap appointment in the manner of United with interim boss Michael Carrick is simply a non-starter. The time for judgement will come at the end of the season.”
It’s a brave call, unquestionably. Liverpool will back Slot despite his struggles and expect him to lead them to Champions League qualification.

That’s a decision many would not take. The calls for Slot to leave were amplified dramatically after the 2-1 defeat against Brighton – a result that convinced many that he wasn’t the man for the job anymore.
Time will tell whether the brave call is the right call, though. It’s certainly one in which the Liverpool bosses will be judged, no matter what happens.
Arne Slot: Situation Summary
Job Security and Performance
Following the 2-1 defeat at Brighton on Saturday, Liverpool has now lost 10 Premier League games this season—the club’s highest tally in a decade. Sitting 5th in the table, Slot is reportedly facing a “Champions League ultimatum” from the FSG hierarchy. With just four wins in their last 13 league matches, reports suggest Julian Nagelsmann and Xabi Alonso are being considered as potential replacements if the club fails to secure a top-five finish.

Contract and Tactical Friction
Slot recently reacted with visible frustration to questions about a new contract, as he enters the final year of his deal this summer. Publicly, he has dismissed extension talks, insisting his focus remains on the final seven league matches. Pundits have criticized his inability to maintain a high-intensity press, noting that the squad frequently looks “outworked” in the midfield trenches.
Injury Crisis
Slot’s tactical options have been “blunted” by a growing injury list. Hugo Ekitiké suffered a dead leg against Brighton, though he is expected to return soon alongside Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker. Record signing Alexander Isak is also nearing a return from a long-term leg fracture, with Slot targeting the Champions League quarter-final against PSG for his comeback.
