Join us for the Champions League and Europa League knockout phase play-off draw as Milan, Juventus, and Atalanta learn their next opponents in the competition.
Juventus and Milan could be paired together in today’s Champions League knockout phase play-off as the Bianconeri could meet the Rossoneri or PSV, while the Rossoneri can be paired with the Bianconeri or Feyenoord.
The winner will face Inter or Arsenal, who have qualified for the Round of 16. The Nerazzurri will learn their path in the competition during today’s draw, which starts at 12:00 CET (11:00 GMT).
Inter are the only Serie A club to have qualified for the Round of 16 by finishing in the top eight of the league phase, while Juventus, Milan and Atalanta finished 20th, 13th and 9th, respectively.
This is why La Dea has a slightly easier path on paper, meeting Sporting CP or Club Brugge.
The Europa League draw, involving Roma and Lazio, will follow at 13:00 CET.
Lazio finished first in the league phase, so they have earned a spot in the Round of 16, while the Giallorossi finished 15th after beating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico last night.
Roma will face FC Porto or Ferencvaros in the play-offs, and there could be a Derby della Capitale in the Round of 16.
How the draw works
From the knockout phase play-offs onwards, the tournament is a bracket, UEFA explains.
The teams that finish the league phase between ninth and 16th will be seeded for the first draw of the knockout phase and will face a team placed 17th to 24th. The seeded team will, in principle, play the return leg at home.
Potential opponents are also pre-defined by pairings of teams’ final league positions. For example, teams finishing ninth and tenth will face the sides that ended 23rd or 24th; teams finishing 11th or 12th will be drawn against either the 21st or 22nd-placed sides and so on.
The eight clubs that prevail in the knockout phase play-offs progress to the round of 16.
