LIV Golf set for Indianapolis event with fresh financial backing

Two weeks before LIV Golf descends on The Club at Chatham Hills in Westfield for the individual championship finale, the league announced Wednesday it has secured funding with a lead investor, “which will play a key role in supporting the path forward for the league’s next era, driven by and for the players.”

In its statement, LIV confirmed the remainder of the 2026 season will play out, which includes a tournament at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey that started Thursday, the Westfield event Aug. 20-23 and LIV’s final tournament in Michigan at The Cardinal at St. John’s Aug. 27-30, which is the league’s Team Championship finale.

LIV Golf, a breakaway tour and a competitor to the PGA Tour, features players such as Bryson DeChambeau, John Rahm, Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith and Phil Mickelson.

LIV also has plans to be the first major global sports league to make players the majority equity holders, which it says “gives the league the foundation to keep growing the game worldwide.”

In addition to the lead investor, the league said Wednesday it has “strong interest” from more than a dozen additional parties to potentially serve as minority investors, creating a multi-partner model built for long-term stability and growth.

“We anticipate finalizing the terms in the coming weeks with the goal of entering a transaction in September,” Liv said Wednesday. “In the meantime, our focus is on delivering a great week for fans and players at Bedminster and finishing the 2026 season strong.”

After reports in April that LIV Golf was on the verge of shutting down because its financials were in limbo, CEO Scott O’Neil vehemently denied them.

“For us, we’re business as usual, but if you want to ask me if this business is tough, I would say absolutely. If you ask me if we were managed very tightly, I would say absolutely. Can this be challenging? Absolutely. And that’s what we signed up for,” O’Neill said. “We signed up for this adventure and it is the ride of a lifetime. Or should I say round of a lifetime.”

• From 2024–25, LIV Golf grew more than 100% in revenue. In 2026, ticket sales are up 130% year over year.

• LIV has sold more than 115,000 tickets for Adelaide and more than 100,000 in South Africa. Sponsorships are up 40% year over year

• Through five events, the league is pacing $100 million ahead of last year’s revenue
