All 32 NFL teams have reported for training camp. What does that mean? Madden season is here! Seriously though, the football season is coming up soon, and a good way to get back into the football mindset can be by playing some Madden NFL.
Madden NFL 27 comes out on August 13, and early access starts on August 6, which gives fans just under 10 days until they can play the latest version of the video game series. Before the game is released, ratings get revealed for things like the 99 Club (which players are given the highest overall of 99), rookie ratings, and more. This gives fans an idea of who the best players and teams are before they load up the game.

On Tuesday, Madden revealed all of the rookies’ overalls, giving Detroit Lions fans an idea of how good the incoming class could be according to the Madden development team. The ratings didn’t just include all the drafted rookies; undrafted quarterback Luke Altmyer made the list as well, since not every undrafted free agent is lucky enough to be in the video game series. Below is the full list of the Lions rookie ratings:
-
EDGE Derrick Moore – 77
-
EDGE – Tyre West – 70
-
DT Skyler Gil-Howard – 65
When reviewing the ratings, I’m surprised Moore is higher than Miller, as usually first-round picks are some of the highest rookies for each team. That doesn’t mean that Miller was considered a bad pick by the Lions, but that Moore could’ve been taken higher in the Madden team’s eyes and is the best rookie of the class. Miller is the projected starting right tackle for the Lions, while Moore is seen as a backup for Week 1. That doesn’t mean by the end of the season, though, he can’t be starting opposite superstar EDGE Aidan Hutchinson.
It was also interesting to see that a seventh-round pick in Tyre West got a 70 overall, as again usually the lower picks get the lower overalls for each draft class. The development team must also see something in Altmyer to include him as an undrafted free agent with the rest of the drafted picks.
To compare to the past few years, here are some of the current players on the roster and their initial rookie ratings compared to what they were at the end of last season. Moore appears to be one of the top-rated rookies in Madden’s eyes for the franchise in the past five years, but he still couldn’t top wide receiver Jameson Williams.

Note: Numbers bolded are their final ratings of the 2025 season

2025 1st round pick DT Tyliek Williams – 77 (76)
-
2022 1st round pick EDGE Aidan Hutchinson – 77 (93)
-
2022 1st round pick WR Jameson Williams – 78 (85)
This is a reminder that our Madden prediction series will return this August. If you haven’t heard about it, it’s an article where I simulate an entire season for the Lions and review what happens with them and around the league. I review the stats, the playoffs, and the Super Bowl, seeing if the simulation can come close to being correct on how the season plays out.
Also, don’t forget that once the season starts, Jeremy Reisman will stream a simulation of that week’s game, answer questions, provide play-by-play, and hang out to kick off your weekend. It’s a fun way to start your Saturday morning, and watching some of the glitches the game brings is always a good chuckle. Get your thumbs ready, soon you’ll be able to take the Lions to the Super Bowl!
